Eagles looking to climb back into top half of GLVC standings

The University of Southern Indiana softball team will be looking to climb back into the top half of the GLVC standings this weekend when it hosts Saint Joseph's College tomorrow and the University of Indianapolis on Saturday. First pitch on both days is slated for noon at the USI Softball Field.

USI (16-16 overall, 7-7 GLVC) is coming off four straight wins and has seen an offensive outburst in its last seven games. The Eagles, who are currently in seventh in the GLVC standings, have hit .352 as a team in the last seven contests and could move as high as fourth in the conference by the end of the weekend.

Leading the way for the Screaming Eagles is rightfielder Sunny Oelling (Valparaiso, Indiana). Oelling is hitting a team-best .389 and has been nearly unstoppable in USI's last seven contests—she is hitting a blistering .560 with eight runs scored and four RBIs during that span.

USI also has been seeing plenty of production out of junior hurler Shannon Emmons (Boonville, Indiana). Emmons, who has hit safely in nine straight games, is hitting .478 with five RBIs and five doubles in USI's last seven games. She also has posted a 1.25 ERA in her last five appearances.

For the season, Emmons is third on the team with a .343 batting average and is tied with fellow classmate Nichole Pike (Fairfield, Illinois) for the third on the squad with 16 RBIs. In the pitching circle, Emmons has posted a team-best 2.04 ERA this season.

The Eagles, who have won 21 of their last 22 home games, will bid farewell to their seniors on Saturday. Five seniors will be honored including USI's all-time career leader in home runs and RBIs, Rachel Bowling (Middletown, Indiana).

USI's other four seniors include outfielder Christi Arzola (Valparaiso, Indiana), second baseman Stacy Beedie (Bedford, Indiana), shortstop Jenny Duell (West Lafayette, Indiana), and leftfielder Ginnie Roberts (Lafayette, Indiana).
