EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana baseball team stranded nine runners on base, including three in the bottom of the eighth, in a 6-4 loss to Brescia University at the USI Baseball Field Wednesday afternoon. USI falls to 15-20 overall, while Brescia goes to 24-20 this spring.
The Bearcats built a 5-0 lead by the bottom of the eighth, scoring two runs in the first inning and a single tally in the fifth, sixth, and seventh. The Screaming Eagles sent nine batters to the plate and scored three times in the eighth before the rally stalled, leaving three USI runners on base.
Each team added a run in the ninth inning for the final score of 6-4.
The highlight of the game for USI was the pitching performance of freshman righthanderÂ
Dustin Jourdan (Evansville, Indiana), who is recovering from aplastic anemia. Jourdan pitched three strong innings, nearly doubling his total for the year. He allowed four hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out a season-high four batters.

Matt Goans (Evansville, Indiana) took the loss for USI. Goans (1-2) went 4 1/3 innings, allowed six hits and three runs while striking out three.
At the plate, freshman third basemanÂ
Brent Perry (Versailles, Indiana) led USI with a two-for-three performance. He also scored twice and doubled. Senior rightfielderÂ
Steve Owen (Wauwatosa, Wisconsin), junior designated hitterÂ
Mike Kottmeyer (Boulder, Illinois), and freshman first basemanÂ
Derik Hutton (Versailles, Indiana) also joined Perry in collecting a pair of hits.
The Eagles return to Great Lakes Valley Conference action Friday and Saturday, April 18-19, at Quincy University. Game time for Friday's doubleheader has been changed to 3 p.m. The start time for Saturday's single game remains noon.
