The University of Southern Indiana baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Kentucky Wesleyan College Wednesday afternoon in Owensboro, Kentucky. KWC won the opener 2-1 and the nightcap 6-5.
USI falls to 10-12 overall and 2-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while KWC goes to 12-5 overall, 4-3 GLVC.
In game one, Eagles' senior left-handerÂ
Brian Anderson (Brazil, Indiana) was out-dueled by KWC's junior right-hander Adam Gautreau, 2-1. Anderson allowed only two first inning runs and only two base runners after the first inning, but Gautreau allowed USI a single tally and only two walks after the second inning. Anderson, who fell to 4-2, went the distance for the Eagles, allowing just two first inning runs on three hits and one walk while striking out a pair.
The Eagles could not overcome a four-run seventh inning by the Panthers to fall 6-5 in the nightcap. The key drive in the seventh was KWC senior first baseman Scott Agnew's three run double off of USI freshman right-handerÂ
Matt Goans (Evansville, Indiana).
USI tried to comeback in the eighth with a pair of tallies but left the tying run a second. Senior rightfielderÂ
Steve Owen (Wauwatosa, Wisconsin) led the Eagles at the plate in game two, going three-for-four with a pair of doubles.
On the mound, senior right-handerÂ
Dan Tomashek (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) took the loss in relief for the Eagles, allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning. Senior left-handerÂ
Joe Stanisz (Highland, Indiana) started for the Eagles, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing two runs on four hits.
The Eagles will resume GLVC action this weekend against at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game start at noon each day.
