The University of Southern Indiana baseball team could not get on track Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair to the University of Indianapolis at the USI Baseball Field. The Greyhounds won game one 10-1 and game two 4-3 in 10 innings.

USI falls to 9-9 overall and 1-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while 22nd-ranked Indianapolis goes to 13-4 overall, 4-1 GLVC.

The Greyhounds jumped out in front early in the opener, scoring four in the first and building a 7-0 before the Eagles could get on the board. USI's only run of the came in the fifth on a two-out single by sophomore shortstop Corey Goers (LaPorte, Indiana), scoring sophomore centerfielder Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) from second.

Indianapolis went on to put three more across the plate in the top of the seventh to finish the scoring in game one, 10-1.

Game two was much closer as USI junior right-hander Drew Neel (Newburgh, Indiana) and UI junior right-hander Chad Kauffman linked up in a pitchers duel. Neel held the Greyhounds hitless through three innings before they took a 1-0 lead with a tally in the fourth. Kaufman grounded the Eagles without a hit through five innings before USI tied the game 2-2 in the sixth.

Indianapolis retook the lead, 3-2, in the ninth with USI responding with a tally in the bottom half of the inning to send the game into an extra frame tied 3-3. With two outs in the 10th, Greyhounds' junior second baseman Erik Peterman singled home senior shortstop Jeremy O'Neill with the game winner.

Neel got a no-decision for the Eagles, going 8 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned) and striking out 10. Senior right-hander Bowie Johnson (Brazil, Indiana) took the loss, going 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and one run. Johnson falls to 0-3 this spring. Kaufman got the win for the Greyhounds and is 1-1 this year.

Senior third baseman Justin Konopacki (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) led the Eagles in game two, going two-for-three with a run scored and two RBIs.

The Eagles and the Greyhounds will hook-up again Sunday afternoon, March 23, for a doubleheader at the USI Baseball Field. Game time is noon.
