EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- An eight-run seventh inning spelled doom to the University of Southern Indiana baseball team Wednesday afternoon in Augusta, Georgia. The Screaming Eagles gave up eight hits and eight runs in the inning as they fell to Augusta State University, 18-10.
USI (5-7) jumped out to a 7-1 lead early on, but the Jags fought back to score four runs in the bottom of the fourth and eight in the bottom of the seventh to take a 13-9 lead. The Eagles gave up five more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as they dropped their fifth consecutive game.
Junior pitcher/catcherÂ
Mike Kottmeyer (Boulder, Illinois) was pinned with the loss after giving up back-to-back homeruns that gave ASU the lead in the seventh. Kottmeyer gave up four runs off four hits and did not record an out in his brief outing.
USI's pitching staff did not allow a walk, but gave up 22 hits and 17 earned runs.
