Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) scored 18 points each in the Screaming Eagles' 90-83 victory over Quincy University Saturday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 15-4 overall and 10-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Quincy falls to 10-10 overall, 4-9 GLVC.
The Eagles also extend their winning streaks to 24 games at the PAC and eight in a row since the beginning of 2003. The home winning streak ranks second in the NCAA Division II behind Humboldt State University (27).
In addition to Harris and Brunson, senior guard
Alan Goff (Terre Haute, Indiana) and sophomore forward
Dennis Coutee (Jeffersonville, Indiana) posted double figures in scoring. Goff matched his second best game of the year with 13 points, while Coutee hit for 10 points, his sixth straight double-digit game.
After USI had built to leads of 12 points in the first half, the Hawk fought their way back into the game and cut the USI lead to 41-38 at intermission. The Eagles were able to build the lead back to 12 in the second half, 75-63, before Quincy made one final run to cut the lead to 78-74 with 3.49 to play.
In the final minute, the Eagles hit eight of 12 from the line to preserve the victory 90-83.
The next action for the Eagles will be a non-conference game with the University of Illinois-Springfield at the Physical Activities Center Thursday, February 6. Game time Thursday evening is 7:30 p.m. USI will resume GLVC action Saturday, February 8, when Kentucky Wesleyan College visits the PAC for a men's and women's doubleheader. Game time next Saturday is 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
