Behind a pair of hot free throw performances from senior guard/forward Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) and freshman point guard Lauren Parrish (Shepherdsville, Kentucky) Monday night in Owensboro, Kentucky, the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team was able to hold off a second half Kentucky Wesleyan College surge to earn its first GLVC victory of the season.

The Screaming Eagles, which led by 24 at halftime, found themselves on the opposite end of a 14-0 run that lasted nearly four minutes of the second stanza. USI went scoreless for more than six minutes of the in the second half before Parrish connected the second of her career-high nine free throws, which snapped KWC's run at 14.

Parrish went 8-of-8 from the line in the last 6:33 of the game to help the Eagles pull out the 84-68 victory. For the game, Parrish finished with a perfect 9-for-9 performance from the charity stripe as she recorded a career-high 15 points.

Playing in the absence of junior guard Kennitra Johnson (New Albany, Indiana), Parrish also recorded four assists while committing just one turnover in 36 minutes of work. Johnson missed the game with a foot injury and her return is day-to-day.

USI (4-1, 1-1 GLVC) jumped out to a stifling 49-25 lead at the break after forcing the Panthers (2-4, 0-1 GLVC) into 17 first-half turnovers. Wells scored 14 of her game and career-high 21 points in the first period.

Wells also went 11-of-12 from the line as the Eagles shot a sizzling 93.5 percent (29-31) from the line.

Clinging to a seven-point lead with six minutes to go in the contest, senior forward Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois) hit a jumper in the paint that spurred the Eagles to a 10-4 run and a 74-61 lead with 1:18 to play in the contest. Lindsey scored six of her 15 points in the final six minutes of the game.

The Eagles also got a big performance from sophomore forward Ashley Green (Otterbein, Indiana). Green finished with 10 points while grabbing a game and career-high eight rebounds.

USI will return to action this Thursday, December 4, when it travels to St. Louis to take on the University of Missouri-St. Louis in a 5:30 p.m. contest. The Eagles will play #8 Quincy University Saturday, December 6, in Quincy, Illinois.
