University of Southern Indiana volleyball senior setter
Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded her 5,000th career assist Friday night as the Screaming Eagles swept GLVC front-runner Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 31-29, 30-26, and 30-25, at the Physical Activities Center in Evansville, Indiana.
Boehmer finished with a match-high 48 assists to become the fifth player in GLVC history to record 5,000 assists. Her total now stands at 5,046, good enough for fourth all-time in the GLVC.
USI (17-7, 6-5 GLVC) started fast as it grabbed a 15-6 advantage midway through the first game. However, the Eagles found themselves down 29-28 late in the first stanza before rallying for three straight points to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.
In game two, the Eagles used a .316 attacking percentage and two late service aces to take the second set and build their match lead to 2-0.
The Eagles had to fight back in the third game as they found themselves down 19-15. USI used a 7-1 run to take a 22-20 advantage and hold on for the 3-0 victory.
For the match, USI recorded 12 service aces and prevented any mistakes of its own by holding SIUE (21-5, 9-2 GLVC) to just two service aces.

Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana). Gross finished with 17 kills and a team-high .419 attacking percentage.

Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) recorded 13 kills and a match-high five service aces while freshman outside hitter
Emily Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) and senior outside hitter
Ashley Riordan (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) chipped in with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Indiana) each recorded a team-high 11 digs. Probst, who ended the first game with a service ace, recorded four service aces in the victory.
The Eagles will finish their 2003 home schedule Saturday afternoon when they host the University of Missouri-St. Louis in a 2 p.m. match at the PAC. USI will honor its two senior,
Kim Boehmer and
Ashley Riordan, prior to the match.
