Eagles fall to UMSL

UMSL 1, USI 0

The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team lost a 1-0 heart-breaker to the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday afternoon at Strassweg Field in Evansville, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles fall to 6-9-1 overall and 3-7-0 in the GLVC while the Riverwomen move to 12-5-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the conference.

USI needed to beat UMSL in order to keep its conference tournament hopes alive. With a win USI would have been in the tournament for the first time since the 2000 season.

The Riverwomen scored the lone goal of the match when junior midfielder Katie Huelsing netted her own corner kick at the five minute mark in the first half.

Freshman goalkeeper Casey Hrvatin (Evansville, Indiana) had a game-high 10 saves for the Eagles while sophomore forward Brooklyn Wilke (Evansville, Indiana) led the team with three shots, one which was on goal.

Coupled with Bellarmine University's loss to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, the Eagles will miss out on their third consecutive GLVC Tournament bid.

Due to the USI-McKendree College match, scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, being cancelled, the Eagles season comes to a close with the loss.
