Evansville, IN The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team could not hold onto a 1-0 second half lead and had to settle for a 1-1 tie with Rockhurst University Wednesday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI and Rockhurst's records go to identical 8-6-1 marks.
The Screaming Eagles got on the board first on an unassisted goal by senior midfielder
Duncan Bray (Scotland) at 62:01. Bray shot from 30 yards out after retrieving one of his own passes that was deflected.
The Eagles controlled the match until Rockhurst started an offensive surge with 15 minutes to play that culminated in a goal by senior back Kurt Trouba at the 80:21 mark.
From that point forward, neither team was able to put the ball into the net despite a combined nine shots in overtime. USI sophomore goalkeeper
Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana) made two of his four saves in the first overtime period, while Rockhurst junior goalkeeper Matt Meier made three of five saves in the extra periods.
The Eagles will conclude the 2003 regular season with Senior Day Saturday, October 25, when they host the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a GLVC doubleheader. USI will honor its eight seniors prior to the men's match at 2:30 p.m.
