The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team found its first road-victory of the year in the Vadalabene Center, defeating Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 90-77, Saturday afternoon in Edwardsville, Illinois. USI raises its record to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while SIUE falls to 5-6 overall, 1-4 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles, who are 6-0 at home, are now 2-4 away from the Physical Activities Center, 1-3 on the road and 1-1 on a neutral court.
The USI victory was not an easy one Saturday. For each double-digit lead the Eagles would build, the Cougars would fight their way back. SIUE cut the lead down to six points on three different occasions after USI had built leads of 11 to 15 points in the second half
The victory also was the fourth straight time that USI has won on SIUE's home court.
USI sophomore guardÂ
Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) tied a career-high and led three Eagles in double-figures with 26 points. Junior forwardÂ
Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois) followed Brunson with a season-high of his own with 20 points.
Eagles' senior guardÂ
David Ragland (Evansville, Indiana) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 points.
USI will return to the friendly confines of the PAC Thursday, January 9, when the University of Missouri-St. Louis comes to Evansville for a GLVC doubleheader. Game times on Thursday are 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
