Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Ray Simmons, USI Athletic Communications

USI women’s basketball falls to 22nd NKU

University of Southern Indiana senior forward/center Africa Sherrod (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) posted her second straight 30-point game and her 12th double-double of the year, but it was not enough as the Screaming Eagles fell to Northern Kentucky University, 98-82, at the Physical Activities Center Saturday afternoon. USI falls to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while 22nd-ranked NKU goes to 12-3 overall and a GLVC leading 8-2.

Sherrod was on fire for a second straight game, hitting 12-20 from the field, 3-4 from beyond the three-point arc, and a perfect 7-7 from the charity strip. In two GLVC games this week, she averaged 35 points, 13 rebounds, and shot 63.2 percent (24-38) from the field.

Junior forward Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois) followed Sherrod in the scoring column with 11 points. Senior guard/forward Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) rounded out USI's double-figure scorers with 10 points.

The Eagles only trailed by two at the intermission, 43-41, after the lead changed hands eight times. The Norse started the second half off with a 6-0 run and never looked back, outscoring the Eagles in the final 20 minutes 55-41.

NKU was red-hot in the second stanza, hitting 64.3 percent from the field (18-28) and 62.5 percent from long range (10-16).

USI finishes the homestand with a 2-1 record and now goes on the road for two GLVC games. The Eagles start the road trip Thursday, January 23, at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, for a 5:15 p.m. contest. The next home game for the Eagles is Thursday, January 30, when USI hosts Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at the PAC.
