The University of Southern Indiana will have a day to recover after the 3-0 loss at the hands of Ashland University Friday afternoon at the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Eagles fall to 0-2-0 in 2002, while Ashland, which was ranked eighth nationally in the preseason poll, goes to 1-2-0.
The Ashland Eagles put the USI Screaming Eagles on their heels early with a pair of goals in the first half. Ashland scored the first at 16:25 and the second at 34:35, taking the 2-0 lead into the half.
The USI Eagles played better in the second half with several chances to score, but could not burst the bubble around the opponents goal. Ashland finished the scoring at 48:20 for the finals score of 3-0.
USI Head Coach
Dan Hogan said, "We were disappointed in our play because we continue to make mistakes that lead directly to a goal. In the second half we played better and had several chances that we did not put into the back of the net."
The USI Eagles will have Saturday off before resuming action in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge against 17th ranked Hillsdale College at 12:30 p.m. The squad will open the 2002 home schedule on Friday, September 13, when it hosts the University of Missouri-Rolla in a 7 p.m. match at Strassweg Field.
