Bellarmine University's Allison Truttman scored off a fast-break freed from Sarah Barton to defeat the University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. The goal came with less than 10 minutes to play in the match.
The Screaming Eagles had chances to score as they fired off 16 shots, nine of which came in the second period of play. However, Bellarmine's late goal gave USI its fourth consecutive loss and dropped the Eagles to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Midway through the second stanza, USI's freshman forward,
Alisann Shetler (Evansville, Indiana), had a break-away that could have put the Eagles on the scoreboard first. However, her shot sailed high as did the USI's best scoring opportunity of the afternoon.
Senior goalkeeper
Aude de La Salle (Gajoubert, France) recorded 11 saves in the losing effort.
USI will take on Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday, September 27. The match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Strassweg Field.
