The University of Southern Indiana exploded for four goals in its 4-1 victory over the University of St. Francis at Strassweg Field Sunday afternoon. USI raises its record to 2-3-0 overall, while USF falls to 2-4-2.
The four tallies is the high water mark for the Screaming Eagles, who have had two goals reach the back of the net in the first four matches.
The game winner came in the first half off the foot of senior forward
Greg Henry (France). Henry and junior forward
Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana) played a game of give and go to put the Eagles up 1-0.
After the Eagles finished the first half with a 1-0 lead, Settles sealed the game in the second half with three straight goals. The junior forward picked up his second goal of the season off a pass from Henry at 51:20 and his fourth of the year off a pass from senior midfielder
Duncan Bray (Scotland) at 54:34.
Settles' fourth goal of the year and the Eagles' fourth of the game was an unassisted tally at the 74:53 mark.
The Fighting Saints got on the board with a goal at 83:50 for the final score of 4-1.
Defensively, USI had a fine effort from junior goalkeeper
Josh Hill (Maple Park, Illinois) and freshman goalkeeper
Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana). Hill had three saves in the first half, while Penick had one in the second.
The next action for the Eagles will be Friday, September 20, at Northern Kentucky University to open the Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule. Match time is 4:30 p.m. (CT). The Eagles will not return to Strassweg Field until Friday, September 27, when Kentucky Wesleyan comes to Evansville for a GLVC doubleheader.
