The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team got the job done in the last 10 minutes of the game as the Screaming Eagles defeated Northern Kentucky University, 2-1, on the road Friday night. The Eagles, who started the season 0-2, raised their record to 3-3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while NKU fell to 3-2-1 overall, 0-1 GLVC.
The victory is the first time USI has started GLVC play with a victory since 1991.
The Norse got on the board first half with a goal in the first and led 1-0 until the Eagles tied the match with 7:36 to play on a goal by junior back
Jarod Anslinger (Evansville, Indiana). Anslinger chalked up his second goal of the year, scoring on a pass from senior midfielder
Nick Ingalls (Greenfield, Indiana).
The Eagles got the game winner two-and-a half minutes later off the head of senior forward
Greg Henry (France). Henry put away his second goal of the year off a cross from junior midfielder
Steve Hendrickson (Granite City, Illinois) and a pass from senior midfielder
Duncan Bray (Scotland). Hendrickson and Bray both received assists on the goal.
For Henry, the goal was his second game-winner in as many contests.
The Eagles will resume the road trip at 11 a.m. Sunday, September 22, at Bellarmine University. USI will play its first GLVC contest of 2002 at Strassweg Field Friday, September 27, in a 5 p.m. match against Kentucky Wesleyan College.
