The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team was handed its first defeat of the year by 16th-ranked Mercyhurst College, 4-0, Saturday afternoon in the Central Region Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana. USI goes to 4-1-1 overall, while Mercyhurst goes to 2-2-0.
The Lakers scored once in the first half and three times in the second half for the victory. Mercyhurst outshot the Eagles 16-6 and had seven corner kicks to USI's two.
"They took advantage of a 10 minute period when they scored three straight goals," said USI Head Coach
Bill Wilkins. "We did not play well and did not stay organized defensively."
The Eagles will have to rebound quickly, playing Wheeling Jesuit University Sunday, September 15, at 2:30 p.m. in Indianapolis.
