The ball did not bounce the right way for the University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team as the Screaming Eagles fell to the University of Missouri-Rolla Miners, 3-0, Friday night at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 1-3-0 overall, while UMR goes to 3-1-0.

In a game that went up and down the field, the same old problem faced the Eagles – putting the ball into the back of the net. USI hit the post twice, bounced one off the cross bar, and missed three open nets. The Eagles outshot the Miners overall, 17-12, and had 10 corner kicks.

UMR took a 1-0 lead at the 16:33 of the first half on a break away. Miner sophomore forward E.J. Klapperich scored off a cross from freshman midfielder Phillip Schloss who had raced from the midfield down the left sideline unmarked. The Miners finished the first half scoring with a goal at 27:41 and took a 2-0 lead into halftime. UMR boosted the lead to 3-0 in the second half with a goal at 66:46.

The Eagles made an attempt to get back into the match with its only tally at 84:02. Junior back Jarod Anslinger (Evansville, Indiana) headed in a corner kick off the foot of senior midfielder Duncan Bray (Scotland) for the final score of 3-1.

USI will have the day off before resuming action Sunday, September 15, at Strassweg Field against the University of St. Francis. Match time Sunday is 1 p.m.
