Aude de La Salle (Gajoubert, France) recorded six saves as the University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team edged Missouri Baptist College, 1-0, Tuesday evening at Strassweg Field in Evansville, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season while the Lady Spartans fall to 4-1.
USI struggled offensively in the first period, recording only two shots. However, a foul late in the half led to Johnson's direct kick and the only goal of the game.
Defensively, USI stood strong behind de La Salle's six saves. MBC came into the match with 18 goals in just four contests.
The Lady Spartans had some chances in the closing minutes of the game, but de La Salle knocked two balls away from the goal to preserve the victory.
USI, which has matched its season win total from a year ago, will travel to Indianapolis to partake in the Central Region Classic. The Eagles will face #16 Mercyhurst College, which is ranked second in the Great Lakes Region, Saturday, September 14, and Wheeling Jesuit University Sunday, September 15.
