The University of Southern Indiana will be the number four seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament scheduled for Friday through Sunday, May 3-5, in Romeoville, Illinois. The Screaming Eagles finished regular season action with a 10-7 mark in league play, 26-16 overall.

USI will face Bellarmine University, the number five seed, in the tournament opener for both teams. Bellarmine, who was 9-8 in the GLVC and 27-12 overall, swept Eagles during the regular season, winning 7-1 and 3-2 in Evansville.

The Eagles were led in the losses by sophomore first baseman Monica Tepe (Granger, Indiana), who had three hits in the two games with an RBI. Tepe was joined in getting multiple hits by sophomore catcher Kristen Houseworth (Martinsville, Indiana) and junior utility player Rachel Bowling (Middletown, Indiana) with two each.

Overall, Bowling leads USI offensively with a .389 batting average, 11 home runs, and 32 RBIs. She is first in the GLVC in home runs, while ranking fifth in batting average and sixth in RBIs in the conference.

Tepe is second on the squad with a .304 average, producing a team-high 10 doubles. She also has driven in 14 RBIs.

On the mound, senior right-hander Danielle Garnett (Griffith, Indiana) is USI's top hurler with a 16-8 record and a 1.72 ERA. Bowling is second on the USI squad with a 6-6 record and a 1.73 ERA in 16 appearances.

The GLVC number one seed will be Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, which won the regular season with a 17-2 league record and a 45-9 overall mark. One of SIUE's two losses in the conference came at the hands of USI.

SIUE is followed by second seed Northern Kentucky University (36-9, 16-3 GLVC) third seed and host Lewis University (27-18, 12-5 GLVC) sixth seed Saint Joseph's College (22-23, 9-9 GLVC) seventh seed University of Missouri-St. Louis (29-22, 8-10 GLVC) and eighth seeded University of Wisconsin-Parkside (19-15, 6-8 GLVC). USI has a record of 5-7 against teams in the GLVC Tournament this spring.

The tournament is a double-elimination format.

Entering the tournament, the Eagles will be trying to stop a four-game losing streak, two in GLVC action. Prior to the losing streaking, USI had won 12 in a row.
