The University of Southern Indiana softball team was, at one point this season, on a 12-game win streak. Now the Screaming Eagles are on a different streak, one that has seen seven-straight USI softball games cancelled due to weather conditions.
USI was scheduled to play a doubleheader with the University of Indianapolis this afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Eagles will now focus their attention on 19th-ranked Northern Kentucky University.
Entering today's action, Northern Kentucky was sitting at second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference—with a 13-3 conference mark—and was scheduled to play first-place Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, which is ranked second in the nation.
Thanks to Quincy University, which defeated Lewis University, 8-6, earlier today, the Eagles will enter their regular season finale in a tie for third in the GLVC with a 10-5 record. Lewis holds the tiebreaker and will host the University of Missouri-St. Louis tomorrow.
USI is currently 26-14 on the season and will need to sweep tomorrow and win two games in the upcoming GLVC Tournament to reach 30 wins for the sixth consecutive season. The USI-NKU doubleheader is slated for an 11 a.m. (CST) start tomorrow in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
