EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Mother nature and the Saint Joseph's College Pumas dampened the University of Southern Indiana baseball team's Saturday as the Screaming Eagles fell 11-2 at the USI Baseball Field. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain and will be made-up on Sunday, April 28, as part of a doubleheader.
The second contest had to be postponed because game time was delayed two-and-a-half hours due to the rain.
USI falls to 20-26 overall and 11-16 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while SJC goes to 24-22 overall and 12-12 GLVC. The loss also further deflated the Eagles' chanced of getting into the GLVC Tournament. USI needs to sweep Sunday's doubleheader to remain in the running for the final GLVC Tournament slot.
The only bright spot for the Eagles was sophomore leftfielder
Adam Anderson (Raleigh, Illinois) and junior first baseman
Justin Konopakci (Ft. Wayne, Indiana). Anderson posted three hits in the loss, while Konopacki was able to manage to two singles and knocked in a run.
The USI seniors will be honored prior to the start of Sunday's doubleheader start. Pregame ceremonies will begin at 11:45 a.m. The Sunday doubleheader also will be Varsity Club Day at the USI Baseball Field. Start for game one will be noon.
