USI track finishes middle of the pack at GLVC meet

Men’s team is 5th, Women’s team is 6th

The University of Southern Indiana men's and women's track teams finished in the middle of the pack for the team standings, but produced four All-GLVC performances in Rensselaer, Indiana, this weekend. Saint Joseph's College hosted the GLVC Championships.

Leading the All-GLVC performers was USI junior Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana), who won the 3,000m run with a time of 10:28.74 and the 1500m run with a time of 4:43.96. Farmer was followed on the women's team by freshman Casey Schneider (New Salisbury, Indiana) in the 5000m run with a first place time of 17:48.56.

On the men's team, USI was led by sophomore Joey Byrne (Georgetown, Indiana). Byrne won the 3000m Steeplechase with a 9:27.62 mark. He just missed being All-GLVC in the 5000m with third-place time of 15:10.21, following first place Arturo Cobral of Lewis (14:55.46) and second place John Poray of Indianapolis (15:06.27).

Missing All-GLVC honors by even a slimmer margin was sophomore Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois). Schwartz was third in the 1500m with a time of 4:02.80, just 0:00.76 behind second place Tim Newman of Saint Joseph's College.
