USI drops a double-dip at Indianapolis

The University of Southern Indiana baseball team had its three-game winning streak stopped and was swept by the University of Indianapolis in Indianapolis Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0 and 8-0. USI falls 18-25 overall and 10-15 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while Indianapolis goes to 27-14 overall, 16-5 in the league.

The Screaming Eagles have five GLVC games remaining in the regular season, including the final game of the three-game series with Indianapolis Sunday, April 21. Game time is noon.

USI junior left-hander Brian Anderson (Brazil, Indiana) pitched wonpderfully in a game one losing cause. Anderson (4-4) went the distance, allowing five hits, one run, and struck out one. He gave up the fateful run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The second game saw USI go hitless in the first five frames, while the Greyhounds posted six runs in the first three innings. The Eagles also were plagued by four errors in the second inning when Indianapolis scored three times.

USI junior right-hander Lonnie Baker (Lexington, Kentucky) took the loss in game two. Baker (2-5) went the first 4 1/3 innings and was charged for only three of the six runs allowed. He also struck out seven batters, but walked four.

Offensively, USI was only able to muster six hits on the afternoon, two in the first game and four in the second.

Following the conclusion of the three-game series on Sunday, the Eagles will play a single game at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday, April 24, before starting the final homestand of the year. The Eagles will host Oakland City University Thursday, April 25, and a three-game series with Saint Joseph's College Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28.
