The University of Southern Indiana softball team had its GLVC/GLIAC Showdown opener against Gannon University at the Belleville Softball Complex in South Bend, Indiana cancelled this evening after a third weather-related delay.
The Screaming Eagles saw lightning delay the contest in the top of the first inning for 29 minutes and rain delay the contest in the bottom of the first inning for five minutes. Officials cancelled play after lightning, once again, delayed the contest in the top of the third inning.
Sophomore catcher
Kristen Houseworth (Martinsville, Indiana) had a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning fall by the wayside as the stats from the contest did not count since the game did not go the mandatory number of innings.
USI will play Northwood University (9 a.m.), Ashland University (1 p.m.), and Mercyhurst College (7 p.m.) on Saturday. The Eagles are 26-12 and have won 12-straight games going into the GLVC/GLIAC Showdown.
