@Lewis University (14-9, 3-2 GLVC): 4 10 Innings)

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The University of Southern Indiana and Lewis University waited four hours to get one game of a scheduled doubleheader played and when it was over the Flyers had stolen one from the Screaming Eagles, 4-3, in extra innings. The teams will face off again on Saturday, March 30, in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. (CT).

USI fell to 11-13 overall, 4-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Lewis raised its record 14-9 overall, 3-2 GLVC.

The match-up, which was supposed to start at noon, saw the Flyers jump out to a 1-0 and 3-1 leads before the Eagles scored once in the third, fifth and seventh to send the contest into the 10th inning. Lewis shortstop Elliott Reyes singled in centerfielder Mike Godfrey in the bottom of the extra frame off USI junior right-hander Bowie Johnson (Brazil, Indiana) for the victory. USI was plagued once again defensively, committing three errors that led to three unearned runs.

Offensively, the Screaming Eagles banged out 12 hits between five players. Junior leftfielder Andy Nucci (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) and junior shortstop Josh Perkins (Lafayette, Indiana) each had three hits, while junior second baseman Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana), junior rightfielder Steve Owen (Wauwatosa, WI), and junior catcher Paul Kohler(Arnold, Missouri) had two hits each.

On the mound, junior right-hander Lonnie Baker (Lexington, Kentucky) took the loss for the Eagles, falling to 2-2. Baker, who allowed the single to Godfrey in the 10th, allowed only three hits, four runs (one earned), and struck out nine hitters in nine-plus innings.

Following the doubleheader on Saturday, USI will return home before going to Kentucky Wesleyan College on Monday, April 1, to play the Panthers in a rescheduled 3 p.m. contest. The next home game for the Eagles will be Wednesday, April 3, when they play a doubleheader with the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Game time for the doubleheader is noon.
