The University of Southern Indiana softball team wrapped up its 10-game Florida trip with an 8-2 record. The Screaming Eagles record wins over fourth-ranked Lewis University, 16th-ranked Dowling College, and regional foe University of Findlay.
Senior hurler
Danielle Garnett (Griffith, Indiana) and junior pitcher/centerfielder
Rachel Bowling (Middletown, Indiana) each went 4-1 and combined for 1.11 earned run average and 36 strikeouts. USI outscored its opposition 48-10 and allowed just a .220 on-base percentage.
Bowling led the Eagles with a .483 batting average along with a team-leading two-homeruns and seven runs batted in. Sophomore outfielder
Lacey Haynes (Boonville, Indiana) compiled a .462 batting average in 13 plate appearances while sophomore catcher
Kristen Houseworth (Martinsville, Indiana) and sophomore first baseman
Monica Tepe (Granger, Indiana) hit .355 and .345, respectively, and combined for 11 RBI.
The Eagles will open their 2002 home schedule Thursday, March 21, when they host Brescia University in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at the USI Softball Field. USI will open Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday, March 22, when Bellarmine University comes to the USI Softball Field.
