#4 Eagles breeze past Wisconsin-Parkside in GLVC Tournament opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind., - The fourth-ranked University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team caused 26 turnovers and held its opponent to 32.0 percent shooting en route to a 76-48 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at Roberts Stadium. The Screaming Eagles improve to 24-5 while the Lady Rangers fall to 9-16.

USI was up by just one point with 13:41 to go in the first half before reeling off an 18-3 run to take a commanding 28-12 lead. The Eagles forced 15 first half turnovers and shot 53.3 percent from the field, including a blistering 71.4 percent from behind the arc.

Sophomore forward Jessica Stuckman (Quincy, Illinois) scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to lead the Eagles to a 41-21 halftime advantage. Senior guard Jasmine Moore (Chicago, Illinois) hit a three at the buzzer to send USI into the locker room with the 20-point lead.

The Eagles opened the second half on a fast pace as they scored six consecutive points to widen the lead to 47-21. USI cooled off a bit in the second stanza, shooting just 42.9 percent from the field.

For the game, Stuckman added to her 20 points with a team-leading 10 rebounds and a game-high four steals. Following Stuckman in the double-figure scoring column was junior guard/forward Sarah McIntosh (Cabery, Illinois), with 15 points, and Jasmine Moore, with 10 points.

The Eagles will face Quincy University in the second round of the GLVC Tournament Friday, March 1. Tip-off is scheduled for noon at Roberts Stadium.
