The University of Southern Indiana baseball team took the rubber game of the three-game series with Truman State University, 14-2, Sunday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI raises its record to 3-5 overall, while TSU falls to 1-2.
The difference in the game was the sixth inning when the Screaming Eagles exploded for 10-runs. The Eagles sent 14 batters to the plate and collected seven hits, while taking advantage of three Bulldog fielding errors.
USI had taken an early lead with a pair of tallies in the first inning. TSU fought back to tie the game with a single run in the top of fourth and sixth. The Eagles, up 12-2, finished their scoring with a pair of runs in the seventh.

Justin Ambs (Zionsville, Indiana), junior second basemanÂ
Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana), and junior rightfielderÂ
Justin Konopacki (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) led the way offensively for the Eagles with multiple hits. Schiff was two-for-three with three RBIs, a pair of runs scored, and a double, while Ambs and Konopacki were both two-for-four.
Ambs added a run scored and two RBIs, while Konopacki had a run scored and three RBIs.
Sophomore right-handerÂ
Nathan Esche (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) got his first win in relief for the Eagles, going 2 2/3 innings and striking out three batters. Junior right-handerÂ
Bowie Johnson (Brazil, Indiana) started the game for the Eagles, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run, but walked six. Johnson also struck out five TSU batters.
USI will finish the homestand with a doubleheader against Eastern Illinois University Saturday, February 26, at 1 p.m. and a single game against Brescia University Wednesday, February 27, at 2 p.m. The Eagles begin their eight-game southern swing Saturday, March 2, with a doubleheader at the State University of West Georgia.
