Eagles drop third to Carson-Newman

Southern Indiana (0-3): 5
@Carson-Newman (9-3): 8

The University of Southern Indiana baseball dropped the final game of a three-game series to Carson-Newman College, 8-5, at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex in Jefferson City, Tennessee, Sunday afternoon. USI is 0-3, while CNC goes to 9-3.

The Screaming Eagles fell behind 5-1 after three innings before mounting a comeback. USI scored two in the fourth and two more in the sixth to make the score 6-5, but Carson-Newman put the game away with a run in the bottom of the seventh and eighth. The USI squad had a chance in the ninth inning, loading the bases with one out, but did not score.

The Eagles had plenty of base runners, but stranded 14 through out the game, 10 after the fifth inning.

Junior second baseman Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles with three hits, a run scored and an RBI. Junior first baseman Justin Konopacki (Ft. Wayne, IN) was the only other Eagle to have multiple hits, producing two singles and an RBI.

The Screaming Eagles will open the 2002 home schedule on Wednesday, February 20, with Oakland City University. Game time for the single game at the USI Baseball Field is 2 p.m.
