JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The University of Southern Indiana baseball dropped a pair to Carson-Newman College, 13-5 and 9-8, at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex in Jefferson City, Tennessee. USI is 0-2, while CNC goes to 8-3.

Josh Perkins (Lafayette, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles with five hits, including a home run in game two, and four RBIs in the double-dip. He was followed by freshman outfielderÂ
Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana), who had four hits, three RBIs and three runs scored.
The Eagles had a chance to win the second game of the doubleheader. USI took an early 4-0 lead before the Carson-Newman came back with five runs in the bottom of the third inning. USI tied the score and retook the lead with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth before the Carson-Newman Eagles tallied three times in the bottom of five, 8-7.
USI tied the score at 8-8 before Carson-Newman scored the game winner bottom of the ninth for the 9-8 victory.
USI and Carson-Newman will play the final game of the three-game series Sunday, February 17, at noon (CT). The Screaming Eagles will open the 2002 home schedule on Wednesday, February 20, with Oakland City University. Game time for the single game at the USI Baseball Field is 2 p.m.
