Eagles breeze past Kentucky Wesleyan

Two matches remaining in regular season

The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team wasted little time getting past Kentucky Wesleyan College Tuesday night at the Physical Activities Center. The Screaming Eagles recorded a 30-14 victory in games one and three as well as a 30-13 victory in game two to take the match, 3-0.

Junior setter Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a match-high 49 assists and led the Eagles to their highest attacking percentage in more than six years (.430). She also tied senior outside hitter Kristina Kavanaugh (Montgomery, Indiana) with a match-high 11 digs.

Senior outside hitter Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) tallied a match-high 17 kills in just two games and recorded a match-high .652 hitting percentage to lead USI's attack. Kavanaugh added 11 kills in just two games as well.

Boehmer also found senior right side hitter Greta Grinstead (Mt. Vernon, Indiana). Grinstead finished with eight kills and a match-high five service aces.

The Eagles, who improve to 21-6 overall and 10-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, will close out their regular season with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the University of Missouri-St. Louis this Friday and Saturday, November 8-9. Match-times are slated for 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, at the PAC. KWC fall to 3-24 overall and 0-12 in the GLVC.

If the Eagles win both matches, they will host the GLVC Tournament as the number one seed. The GLVC Tournament is scheduled to take place Thursday through Saturday, November 14-16.
