The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team saw a 2-0 lead fall by the way side as it fell to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 2-3, Friday night at the Physical Activities Center in Evansville, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles, who saw their 10-match winning streak end, fall to 21-7 overall and 10-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Cougars improve to 20-9 overall, 10-3 in the GLVC.

After recording 40 kills and a .300 attacking percentage in the first two games, USI's attack was completely shut down in the final three games. USI recorded just 33 kills and a .113 attacking percentage in the final three games as they fell 25-30, 23-30, and 10-15.

Senior outside hitter Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) recorded 13 kills and a .346 attacking percentage in the first two games, but was held in check during the final three games. Wells was held to 10 kills and a .062 attacking percentage in games three, four, and five. She finished the contest with a match-high 23 kills to go along with 18 digs.

Wells needs just eight digs to become USI's career-leader in digs. She already holds USI's career-records for kills and service aces.

Junior setter Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished with 52 kills and 16 digs in the loosing effort.

The loss severely hampers USI's chances of capturing the number one seed in next week's GLVC Tournament. USI, which could secure the number three seed in the tournament with a win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis tomorrow afternoon, would need both Northern Kentucky University and Lewis University to loose tomorrow. NKU is at the University of Indianapolis while Lewis hosts Quincy University.

USI will host Missouri-St. Louis in a 2 p.m. match tomorrow at the PAC. Tomorrow's match is Senior Day for the Eagles. Seniors Shannon Wells, Kristina Kavanaugh (Montgomery, Indiana), and Greta Grinstead (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) will be honored.

The Eagles are now 0-3 this season in five-game matches.
