Duncan Bray (Scotland) picked up his first hat trick as a Screaming Eagle, but it was not enough as the University of Missouri-St. Louis won in overtime 4-3 in St. Louis. USI falls to 5-5-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while UMSL goes to 5-3 overall, 4-1 GLVC.
The Rivermen opened the scoring in the first half and led at halftime, 1-0. Bray tied the score for the first time with the first of his three unassisted goals at 63:38. UMSL bounced right back to retake the lead 3-1 on goals at 70:17 and 75:38. Down 3-1, Bray went back to work, scoring at 82:47 and tying the score, 3-3, at 88:34.
The Eagles and the Rivermen took the match into extra time, battling until the 104:55 mark of "sudden victory" overtime when UMSL put in the game winner for the final score of 4-3.
USI resumes Great Lakes Valley Conference action Sunday, October 6, when the Eagles host Quincy University at Strassweg Field. Match time on Sunday is noon.
