USI men’s soccer downs Quincy in rain

@University of Southern Indiana (6-5-0 overall, 4-1-0 GLVC): 2 Quincy University (8-2-0 overall, 5-1-0 GLVC): 0

On a rain-soaked Strassweg Field, the University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team was able to score a pair of goals and defeat Quincy University, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in Evansville, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles improve to 6-5-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Hawks fall to 8-2-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the GLVC.

Senior midfielder Duncan Bray (Shetland, Scotland) scored off a penalty kick at the 61:37 mark to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Bray, who had not scored a goal in the first nine contests of the season, now has four goals in USI's last two matches.

Fellow classmate Nick Ingalls (Greenfield, Indiana) added the insurance with an unassisted goal with just over 10 minutes to play.

After mustering up just three first-half shots, the Eagles exploded for 11 shots in the second stanza. The explosion put pressure on Quincy goalkeeper, Brian Forrest, who gave up both goals and was forced to make four saves in the second half.

Defensively for the Eagles, freshman goalkeeper Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana) recorded five saves and played all 90 minutes of the match to pick up his second shutout of the season. Penick improves to 4-1-0 on the season with the victory.

The win is only the second time in nine contests that the Eagles have defeated the Hawks. USI defeated Quincy, 4-3, a year ago in overtime.

USI will host Brescia University Wednesday, October 9, in a 5 p.m. match at Strassweg Field. The Eagles will resume conference action next Sunday, October 13, as they play host to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. That match is slated for a 12 p.m. start time at Strassweg Field.
