The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team reached 11 wins in a season for the first time since 1995 with a 3-0 victory over McKendree College Wednesday evening at Strassweg Field. USI is now 11-7-0 overall, while McKendree falls to 10-9-0.
With the regular season complete, the Screaming Eagles will turn their attentions to the post season and the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. Fourth seeded USI will host fifth seeded Quincy University in a first round match Wednesday, November 6, at Strassweg Field. Match time next Wednesday is 1 p.m.
The Eagles struck for their first goal late in the first half off the foot of senior back
Steve Hendrickson (Granite City, Illinois). Hendrickson scored his first goal of the season and his second as an Eagle off a pass from senior midfielder
Nick Ingalls (Greenfield, Indiana).
Entering the second half with a 1-0 lead, the Eagles took a commanding 2-0 lead five minutes into the second half. Ingalls participated in the other side of the scoring play with his second goal of the season at the 50:59 mark. The senior forward scored after receiving a pass from junior midfielder
Jared Anslinger (Evansville, Indiana).
USI put the game out of reach of the Bearcats in the final ten minutes on a goal by senior forward/midfielder
Duncan Bray (Scotland). Bray, the USI leader in points, hit the back of the net for his eighth goal of the season on a play set up by junior forwards
Scott Henderson (Evansville, Indaina) and
Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana).
On the defensive side, freshman goalkeeper
Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana) shined between the posts for USI. Penick made eight saves, one short of a season-high, and faced down 16 McKendree shots. The shutout was the fifth of the season for Penick, who has a 9-3-0 this season.
