USI gets revenge at home against Quincy

The seventh-ranked University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team paid Quincy University back for an early season defeat with a 71-59 victory Thursday night at the Physical Activities Center. USI, which has won 22 straight home games, raises its record to 13-3 overall and 6-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy falls to 8-6 overall, 4-4 GLVC.

After a tough first half that saw both teams combine to shoot 33.3 percent from the field (19-57), the Screaming Eagles burst out of the gate in the second half with a 16-5 run to lead 40-26 with 15:31 to play. USI saw the lead grow to as many as 17 points at 60-43 with 7:24 left in the contest.

Sophomore guard Erin Wall (New Albany, Indiana) led USI with a career-best 19 points. Wall was 7-11 from the field, including five-of-six from beyond the three-point arc. She was joined in double figures by junior center Africa Sherrod (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida), who had 13 points.

Senior center Michelle Irwin (Louisville, Kentucky) came off the bench to grab a career and game-high 11 rebounds while dropping in eight points. Sophomore forward Jessica Stuckman (Quincy, Illinois) followed Irwin with seven boards, but was kept out of double-figure scoring for the first time this season with a season-low eight points.

The next action for the Eagles will be Saturday, January 12, when Southern Illinois University Edwardsville pays a visit the PAC for a GLVC doubleheader. The women's game will begin at 5:15 p.m. with the men's game following at 7:30 p.m.
