The seventh-ranked University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team took round one from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a 74-63 victory Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center. The win moves USI into second place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

USI, which has won 23 straight at the PAC, raises its record 14-3 and 7-2 in the GLVC. SIUE falls to 9-7, 7-3 GLVC.

It was a tight contest for most of the evening with the Screaming Eagles sporting a three-point lead at halftime, 28-25. The second half started with USI bouncing out to a nine-point advantage, 38-29, with 16:50 to play. SIUE mounted a comeback and re-took the lead, 46-45 with 11:03 left.

USI regained the lead for good at 47-46 going and used an 18-7 run to push the lead to 10 points at 63-53 with 4:30 to play. The Eagles increased the lead to as many as 13 points in the final minute before winning by 11 points, 74-63.

Senior guard Jasmine Moore (Chicago, Illinois) led the way for the Eagles with 24 points. She shot 72.7 percent from the field (8-11), 75.0 percent from the line (6-8) and was perfect from beyond the three-point arc (2-2).

Junior forward Jessica Stuckman (Quincy, Illinois) followed Moore with 13 points, while sophomore guard Erin Wall (New Albany, Indiana), who dropped in 11 points.

The Eagles will go onto the road for the next two contests, traveling to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to play the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday, January 17, and to Rensselaer, Indiana, to play Saint Joseph's College Saturday, January 19. The next game at the PAC will be Thursday, January 24, when Northern Kentucky University comes to Evansville.
