The University of Southern Indiana volleyball has won four consecutive matches and seven of its last eight after going 1-3 and losing to conference foes Missouri-St. Louis and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in the opening weekend of 2001. Look no further than sophomore setter Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) for the Screaming Eagles' recent turn around.

Since her return in the second weekend of the season, the Eagles have gone 7-2 and posted wins against three 2000 NCAA Division II Tournament participants. With Boehmer in the lineup, the Eagles are averaging 15.44 kills per game and have posted a .282 attacking percentage.

Without Boehmer in the lineup, the Eagles are 1-3 and averaging 13.60 kills per game. USI's attacking percentage without Boehmer is just .205.

The reigning Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year is averaging 11.71 kills per game and is currently fourth on USI's all-time career assists list with 1,634.

USI attackers will look for more of Boehmer's sets as the Eagles entertain SIU Edwardsville tomorrow evening (7 p.m.) at the Physical Activities Center. After getting a little revenge against UMSL this past Saturday, USI will be looking to do the same against a Cougar squad that is 7-7 overall and 2-0 in the GLVC. The Eagles swept the season-series against the Cougars a year ago.

Boehmer will have plenty of chances to post assists with junior Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) and freshman Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) roaming the court. Wells is second in the GLVC with 4.38 kills per game while Gross is leading all freshmen in the conference with 3.53 kills per game.

Evansville native Leah Mercer also is posting big numbers. The squad's lone senior is third on the team with 3.08 kills per game and second on the squad with 25 blocks.
