The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team fell in the Great Lakes Valley Conference season opener, 2-0, at the University of Indianapolis Friday afternoon. The start of the match was delayed for an hour due to the national day of mourning.
USI falls to 1-5-0 overall, 0-1-0 in the GLVC, while Indianapolis goes to 5-0-0, 1-0-0 GLVC.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half at the 12:00 mark and put the game away in the second half at the 87:00 mark for a final score of 2-0. Indianapolis scored its two goals on nine shots, while holding USI three.
The Eagles will have to wait a day before trying to get back on track and break its three-match losing streak. USI will travel to Rensselaer, Indiana, to play Saint Joseph's College Sunday, September 16, at noon. USI defeated the Pumas last season, 3-0, but trail in the series, 5-3-0.
The next home match for the Eagles will be on Friday, September 21, when the University of Wisconsin-Parkside visits Strassweg Field for a 5 p.m. match-up.
