The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team dropped its fourth straight match of the season this morning as it opened the Amerihost Invitational, in Allendale, Michigan, with a 3-1 loss to Grand Valley State University.
USI posted a .297 attacking percentage, including a .423 percentage in the fourth game, but could not answer GVSU's attack as the Lakers hit .365 as a team.
Junior outside hitter
Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles attack with a team-high 16 kills and .424 hitting percentage. Wells also poured in 14 defensive digs.
Senior middle blocker
Leah Mercer (Evansville, Indiana) contributed 12 kills and 11 digs while freshman middle blocker
Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) added 11 kills. Junior outside hitter
Kristina Kavanaugh (Montgomery, Indiana) led the Eagles with a match-high 16 digs.
Sophomore setter
Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a game-high 37 assists in her first action of the season.
USI, which falls to 1-4 on the season, will be back in action later this afternoon as it takes on NCAA Division II participant Edinboro University. Match time is scheduled for three o'clock.
