USI wins on last second shot by Ragland

University of Southern Indiana junior guard David Ragland (Evansville, Indiana) hit a three-point field goal with one second to play to give the Screaming Eagles a 91-90 road victory over the University of Indianapolis Thursday night. USI raises its record to 5-3 overall, 3-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Indianapolis falls to 4-3 overall, 2-3 GLVC.

Indianapolis' guard Cedric Moodie gave the Greyhounds a two-point lead, 90-88, on a pair of free throws to set the stage with three seconds to play. USI sophomore forward Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois) inbounded the ball to Ragland, who drove across the half-court line before letting the winning shot fly with one second to play.

USI senior forward Marlowe Currie (St. Louis, Missouri) led the Eagles with 24 points and extended his streak of scoring in double figures to 30 games. USI is 33-9 when Currie scores in double figures.

Ragland, who is averaging 12.0 ppg over the last four games as a starter, and freshman guard Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) followed Currie with 17 points each, while Harris had 13 points. Senior center Ronnie Griffin (Louisville, Kentucky) added 10 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds in the win.

The Eagles will remain on the road, traveling to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to play the 17th-ranked Northern Kentucky University Saturday, December 8. Game time is 6:45 p.m. (CST). USI will return home next Saturday, December 15, to host Oakland City University in a 7:30 p.m. contest.

After Saturday's game with NKU, USI will have played seven of its first nine games on the road, but will play 11 of the next 13 at the Physical Activities Center.
