USI falls in overtime to #17 Northern Kentucky

The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team could not stop 17th ranked Northern Kentucky University in overtime, falling 83-82 in Highland Heights, Kentucky Saturday night. USI falls to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while NKU goes to 6-2 overall, 3-2 GLVC.

USI had two shots to score in the final seconds of overtime, but senior forward Marlowe Currie (St. Louis, Missouri) and junior forward Diond're Givens (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) could not get the ball to fall.

The Screaming Eagles led at halftime 31-24, but the Norse fought back to even the score at the end of regulation, 69-69, by shooting 60 percent in the second half. NKU also converted on six of its seven shots in overtime (85.7 percent) to outscore USI, 14-13.

Currie led the Eagles with 25 points, while senior center Ronnie Griffin (Louisville, Kentucky) had 13 points and a team-high 10 reounds. Senior guard Wes Attebury (Evansville, Indiana) was the only other USI player to score in double figures, dropping in 10 points.

The Eagles will have the week off before starting a seven-game homestand at the Physical Activities Center. The homestand will begin Saturday, December 15, when USI hosts Oakland City University in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
