The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball defeated the Tornatta Stars in its first exhibition game, 89-81, at the Physical Activities Center Saturday night. The Eagles will finish the exhibition season on Saturday, November 10, when they host Pella Windows in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
The Screaming Eagles had trouble getting on track offensively in the first half, trailing by as many as 11 point, 16-5, nine minutes into the contest. USI bounced into action and tied the game by the end of the half, 35-35.
In the second half, the Eagles pulled away and outscored the Stars 54-46. Senior guardÂ
Wes Attebury (Evansville, Indiana) led the way, scoring 16 of his 21 points in the second half. Freshman guardÂ
Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) scored all 12 of his points after halftime, while senior centerÂ
Ronnie Griffin (Louisville, Kentucky) knocked in 12 of his 14 points in the second frame.
After the team plays its final exhibition game with Pella Windows next Saturday, the Eagles will start the season by playing seven of it first nine contest on the road. USI will open the regular season at the Division II Tip-Off Classic in Orlando, Florida, at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
