Currie, Ragland lead 11th-ranked Eagles to 82-75 victory over Flyers

Senior forward Marlowe Currie (St. Louis, Missouri) and junior guard David Ragland (Evansville, Indiana) combined for 31 points in the second half to lead the 11th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team to an 82-75 victory over Lewis University this evening at the Physical Activities Center in Evansville, Indiana.

USI used an 8-0 run in the first half to overcome a 31-21 deficit and go into the locker rooms in a 40-40 halftime-tie. Senior forward Ronnie Griffin (Louisville, Kentucky) scored 16 of his game-high 21 points to keep the Eagles afloat in the first period.

As a team, the Eagles shot 63 percent from the floor in the first half, but committed 11 turnovers and were out rebounded 17-13 in the first frame.

The second half saw the hot hands of Currie and Ragland pull the Eagles away from the Flyers. USI outscored Lewis 20-8 at one point in the second stanza as it took a 65-56 lead with 6:14 to play in the game.

Currie scored 17 of his 21 points, matching Griffin for the game's leading scorer, and grabbed nine of his game-high 10 rebounds in the second period. Currie's three-pointer with 6:14 to play gave USI the nine-point advantage.

With the Flyers down seven with two minutes to go in the contest, Ragland connected on a shot from behind the arc to give the Eagles a 75-65 lead with 1:57 remaining in the game.

Ragland scored nine points down the stretch to seal the win for the Eagles. For the game, Ragland finished with 16 points, 14 of which came in the second stanza.

Senior forward Wes Attebury (Evansville, Indiana) tapped in with nine points and a team-high six assists in the winning effort.

USI, which raises its record to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, will face the University of Wisconsin-Parkside this Saturday, December 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. at the PAC.
