The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team rebounded from Saturday's loss to defeat Quincy University, 97-88, on the road Monday night. The Screaming Eagles raised their record to 3-2 overall, 1-1 in the conference, while the Hawks fall to 1-2 overall, 0-2 in the GLVC.
USI took control of the game early building a 15-point lead with three minutes to play in the first half, 47-32, before Quincy used a late charge to pull within nine at the half, 54-45. In the second half, the Eagles rebuilt their lead to as many as 16 points, 70-54, with 14:20 to play when Quincy made their run. The Hawks were able to pull within three points several times in the final ten minutes, but USI withstood the challenge.
The Eagles had by four players score in double figures, led by the 22-points performance of senior forwardÂ
Marlowe Currie (St. Louis, Missouri). He was joined in double figures by senior centerÂ
Ronnie Griffin (Louisville, Kentucky) with 17 points junior forwardÂ
Diond're Givens (Mt. Vernon, Indiana), 12 points and sophomore forwardÂ
Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois), 10 points.
USI will have its home opener on Thursday, November 29, against Lewis University. Game time for the GLVC contest at the Physical Activities Center is 7:30 p.m.
