The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team overcame a 17-point first half deficit to win its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, 69-60, on the road at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. USI raises its record to 4-1 overall, 1-0 in the conference, while UMSL falls to 1-2 overall, 0-1 GLVC.

USI trailed for most of the first half, down 11 on three different occassion and by as many as 17 points midway through the half. The Screaming Eagles edged their way back and trailed at halftime 35-27.

The Eagles started their comeback early in the second half, scoring the first eight points and tying the game at 35-35. The Riverwomen stayed close with USI's largest lead being the final score of 69-60.

USI was led by senior guard Jasmine Moore (Chicago, Illinois), who had 15 points. Sophomore forward Jessica Stuckman (Quincy, Illinois) was second on the team with 14 points and posted team-high 10 rebounds.

"We were down 17 points and we deserved it," said USI Head Coach Rick Stein in his post-game radio show. "UMSL had us on our heals and deserved that big lead.

"I was not pleased with our play until right before half," continued Stein. "The last 22 minutes, we play our game. The players were not communicating in the first half and when your not intense, you are going to look back. We played our game in the second half, which means we were aggressive on both ends of the floor. That is how you limit a team to six field goals in the second half."

The Eagles will resume action on Monday evening, November 26, at Quincy University in a GLVC contest. Game time is 5:15 p.m. USI will play its GLVC season opener Thursday, November 29, against Lewis University in a 5:15 p.m. contest at the Physical Activities Center.
