The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team had its six-match winning streak stopped by 15th ranked Northern Kentucky University, 3-0, Friday night in Highland Heights, Kentucky. USI falls to 19-9 overall, 10-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while NKU raises its record to 23-4 overall, 13-0 GLVC. The game scores were 30-16, 30-25, 30-25.
NKU also entered the match ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region, while USI was tied for fifth.
USI was led by junior outside hitter
Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) with 11 kills and three aces. Freshman middle hitter Leanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) joined Wells in double-digits with 10 kills and 10 digs.
The Screaming Eagles will finish the regular season tomorrow (Saturday, November 3) at the University of Indianapolis. Match time is 1 p.m. CT. The Greyhounds entered this weekend's action with a 24-7 overall, 8-4 GLVC.
A win over the Greyhounds on Saturday would guarantee the Eagles of being a number two or three seed in the GLVC Tournament depending upon the outcome of the Indianapolis-Southern Illinois University Edwardsville match tonight and the NKU-SIUE match on Saturday. SIUE entered the weekend tied with USI on top of the Green Division of the GLVC and holds the tiebreaker with USI by sweeping the home-and-home league matches.
