Junior outside hitter
Kristina Kavanaugh (Montgomery, Indiana) recorded a match-high 16 kills and 10 digs to lead the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over the University of Charleston this morning at the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Illinois. Kavanaugh also posted a match-high .556 attacking percentage.
The Screaming Eagles benefited from 11 service aces and eight Charleston service errors as they recorded their third victory in less than 24 hours.
Sophomore setter
Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a match-high 37 assists and moved into second place all-time at USI with 2,161 career assists.
Senior middle blocker
Leah Mercer (Evansville, Indiana) tapped in with 10 kills and recorded her 700th career dig as she posted six in the match. Junior outside hitter
Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) recorded nine kills and five service aces despite seeing limited playing time.
The win concludes USI's eight-match road trip and leaves the Eagles four wins away from back-to-back 20 win seasons for the first time since 1980-81. USI concluded its road trip with a 6-2 record.
The Eagles will return to the Physical Activities Center Saturday, September 20, for their final home match of the regular season. USI will host Saint Joseph's College and the match will start at 2 p.m. The match is also USI's Senior Day.
