Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) became USI's all-time career leader in service aces this evening as the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team notched two victories this evening at the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Illinois.
The Eagles will resume action tomorrow morning as they play the University of Charleston for the second time this weekend. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m. USI will return home one week from Saturday as it hosts Saint Joseph's College in a return to Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Gross comes up big as Eagles rally past Cardinals in five games
Freshman middle blocker
Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) recorded eight kills in the final two games of a five-game match and a couple of key blocks to help the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team rally past Wheeling Jesuit University, 3-2, this evening at the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Illinois. Gross finished the match with 15 kills and a team-high 17 digs.
After coming back from a six-point deficit in game one, to win 31-29, the Eagles found themselves down two games to one and on the brink of loosing their ninth match of the season. USI rallied, though, as it forged a 31-29 game-four victory, setting up a decisive game-five.
The Eagles were down in game-four on numerous occasions, but used a .325 attacking percentage in the fourth stanza to come out on top.
In game five, the Eagles found themselves down once more, this time 10-7 in a game that is decided when the first team reaches 15 points and has a two-point cushion. Gross, however came up with a key block to help the Eagles stay in the game and the match.
USI scored the next five points to take a 12-10 lead, only to see the Cardinals rally back to tie the fifth set once more. The Eagles would not be denied, however, as they scored the final two points to win the game, 15-13, and the match, 3-2.

Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) led all attackers with 28 kills while adding 10 digs.

Leah Mercer tapped in with 16 kills and a team-high .382 attacking percentage while junior
Kristina Kavanaugh (Montgomery, Indiana) added 10 kills and 12 digs. Freshman setter
Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the squad with 64 assists.

Leah Mercer (Evansville, Indiana) recorded a match-high kills while junior outside hitter
Kristina Kavanaugh (Montgomery, Indiana) followed with 12 kills as the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team breezed past the University of Charleston, 3-0, this evening at the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Illinois. The Screaming Eagles dominated the match from beginning to end as they recorded a .356 attacking percentage and held Charleston to just .087.
Junior outside hitter
Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) became USI's all-time leader in career service aces as she recorded a match-high seven, six of which came on one rotation in game two. Wells also led all attackers with a .778 attacking percentage.
Sophomore setter
Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied a match-high 40 assists while freshman middle blocker
Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) tapped in with a team-high 10 defensive digs.
